Chief Executive Officer
Tom Marano joined Intrawest in November of 2014 as Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining Intrawest, Mr. Marano was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Residential Capital LLC (also known as ResCap) from 2008 to 2013. From April 2008 to April 2009, Mr. Marano was a Managing Director at Cerberus Capital Management, where he led mortgage activities and had oversight of ResCap. Mr. Marano served as non-executive Chairman of ResCap until August 2008, then Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. In April 2009, Mr. Marano became the Chief Capital Markets Officer of Ally Financial as well as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ResCap. Prior to this, Mr. Marano served at Bear Stearns for 25 years where he was the Head of Global Mortgage and Asset Backed Trading and Originations from 2006 to 2008. He also serves as a Trustee at the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Mr. Marano holds a Bachelor's Degree from Columbia College in New York City.
Chief Operating Officer
Sky Foulkes joined the Intrawest Denver team as Chief Operating Officer in November 2014 after 32 years at Stratton Mountain where he was President and COO since 2007. After graduating cum laude from Colorado State University in 1982, Sky joined Stratton as a professional ski patroller and worked his way up to Vice President of Operations. As VP and General Manager, Sky was resort chief for both Stratton and Mountain Creek, focusing on creating efficiencies that benefitted both resorts while maintaining distinct brands. In 2010 he took on Intrawest's indoor ski dome in Madrid, achieving a successful exit from an onerous lease. During Sky’s tenure, Stratton was the first major resort to welcome snowboarding, earned respect as a leader in terrain park build and safety, won national and state environmental awards, launched the Stratton Mountain Club, and became renowned for snow quality, service and the cultivation of loyal guests.
Chief Financial Officer
Travis Mayer joined Intrawest in 2007 and has served as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer since January 2015. Previously, Mr. Mayer held various positions at Intrawest including EVP, Operations & Business Development; SVP, Finance & Business Development, and VP, Finance. Mr. Mayer started his career with Intrawest at our Steamboat resort before relocating to Denver to join the management team. In his current role, Mr. Mayer oversees our mergers and acquisitions strategy in addition to our corporate finance activities. Prior to joining Intrawest, Mr. Mayer was a member of the U.S. Ski Team for eight years and represented the United States at two Olympic Games, earning a silver medal in the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Mayer holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.S. from Cornell University, summa cum laude.
SVP, Chief General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Karen Sanford joined Intrawest in 2008 and has served as Senior Vice President, Chief General Counsel and Corporate Secretary since June 2015. Previously, Mrs. Sanford held various positions at Intrawest including Deputy General Counsel and Vice President of Risk & Litigation. Mrs. Sanford began her Intrawest career as Corporate Counsel in the Vancouver corporate headquarters, where she was responsible for controlling Intrawest’s litigation portfolio and successfully resolved hundreds of real estate cases. She relocated to Denver in 2014, where she now oversees the legal team and legal matters relating to insurance, employment, corporate commercial contracts and transactions, and the Company’s litigation portfolio. Prior to Intrawest, Mrs. Sanford worked as an attorney at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in Canada and earned her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Law, Vancouver B.C.
Chief Marketing Officer
Matt Bowers joined Intrawest in January of 2015 as Chief Marketing Officer. Matt joins Intrawest after three years as the Regional Vice President of Marketing for Simon Property Group, the world’s largest Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), where he lead Marketing and Sales for a collection of retail centers and Malls across the Midwest. Prior to that he spent more than 11 years at Caesars Entertainment where he held various marketing roles, starting at the property level and ultimately serving at the corporate hub in Las Vegas. Matt has a strong, demonstrated background in establishing and implementing targeted digital strategies, CRM efforts, and database analytics to deliver sustained operational impact, revenue growth, and marketing innovation for the organizations he has served. He received his BA in Economics at DePauw University in Greencastle, IN and his MBA in Finance at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
Chief Information Officer
Jeff Grayson joined Intrawest in September 2013 and is an accomplished executive with a track record of scaling technology to transform the customer experience. He has consistently joined companies that are growth focused. His expertise is related to mobile application development, digital product management and large-scale business transformations. He won the Gartner Gold CRM Award in 2008. Jeff was previously at Equinox as the CIO for 11 years. Equinox is a leading luxury fitness and lifestyle company. Prior to Equinox, he was the CTO of Referral Networks, an HR systems SaaS provider and the Co-Founder/CTO of a digital music company RipDigital. Prior to that, Jeff was a developer and digital strategist at Kleiner Perkins-backed, consulting company Viant. Jeff holds a BA in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and a MS from NYU's Stern School of Business in combination with computer science from NYU's Courant Institute of Mathematics.
Karen Hamilton Smith
Vice President of Tax
Karen Hamilton-Smith joined Intrawest in September 2011 as Director of Tax. Prior to joining Intrawest, Karen spent more than eight years heading up the corporate tax function for Vail Resorts where she established and managed the corporate tax function. Prior to this, Karen spent more than 20 years in public accounting, initially with Price Waterhouse in the US, Germany and England. She then joined Arthur Andersen in London as a manager and partner where she ultimately managed the human capital services tax practice for Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa. Karen brings her extensive leadership and management skills to Intrawest. Karen holds a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in accounting and economics and is a CPA.
