  1. What is Intrawest?
    Intrawest is a leader in the development and management of experiential destination resorts. The company has a network of resorts at North America's most popular mountain destinations, including Whistler Blackcomb, a host venue for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The Intrawest network also includes Canadian Mountain Holidays, the largest heli-skiing operation in the world, Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Florida and Club Intrawest— a private resort club with exclusive locations around the world. In addition, Intrawest develops, markets and sells real estate at its resorts and at other third-party locations across North America and in Europe.

  2. When was Intrawest founded?
    Intrawest was founded in 1976 as an urban real estate company.

  3. Is Intrawest a private or a public company?
    On October 26, 2006, private equity funds managed by affiliates of Fortress Investment Group LLC (NYSE:FIG) successfully completed the acquisition of Intrawest. The total value of the transaction, including the existing debt of Intrawest, was approximately US$2.8 billion. Intrawest’s shares were de-listed from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: IDR) and the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX: ITW) as a result of the acquisition and the subsequent privatization of the company. Currently, Intrawest is a portfolio company controlled primarily by private equity funds managed by affiliates of Fortress Investment Group LLC.

  5. Does Intrawest own 100% of all the resorts in the company's current portfolio?
    Intrawest owns 100% of the following resorts: Copper, Mountain Creek, Panorama, Sandestin, Snowshoe, Steamboat, Stratton and Tremblant. Intrawest is a partial owner of the following resorts: Whistler Blackcomb (77%), Blue Mountain (50%) and Mammoth (15%). Intrawest does not have an ownership stake in Winter Park, however; in 2002, the City and County of Denver selected Intrawest as the lessee, manager and developer of Winter Park Resort.

    Yes, Intrawest Placemaking has a tradition of developing finely crafted resort-style homes, condominiums and pedestrian villages at some of the most sought-after destinations in the world.

  10. How will the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games benefit Intrawest and Whistler Blackcomb?
    Winning the bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics is a glowing endorsement for both Vancouver and Whistler Blackcomb. The Games will stimulate transportation enhancements and promote tourism and economic development in British Columbia. Improvements to the highway between Whistler Blackcomb and greater Vancouver will connect the two regions with a safer, more driver-friendly version of the “Sea-to-Sky” highway. The Games will provide Intrawest with the opportunity to showcase the unique resort development at Whistler Blackcomb to the world. The legacy created by the Olympics will live on long after the Games are complete.

  11. What Olympic events are scheduled to take place at Whistler Blackcomb?
    The events to be held at Whistler Blackcomb include: Alpine Downhill, Super-G, Combined Downhill, Alpine Giant Slalom, Slalom and Combined Slalom. Other sporting venues and events including a bobsleigh and luge track are planned for Blackcomb Mountain. In addition, a ski-jump and biathlon facility will be located at Callaghan Valley, approximately 8 km (5 miles) south of Whistler Village.
